Air - Made to measure: 159 metres of custom Feadships launched on the same day

In an extraordinary day even by Feadship’s standards, Koninklijke De Vries Scheepsbouw and Royal Van Lent each launched a giant Feadship for delighted owners on Saturday 26 March 2011. The 81-metre Air instantly becomes the largest Feadship available for charter in the world as well as being the largest yacht built by the De Vries Aalsmeer yard to date. The other launching was of hull #802, a 77.70-metre Feadship at Royal Van Lent. She has a very characteristic exterior styling, including a daring combination of a white hull with a metallic grey and blue superstructure.

Both the new Feadships are full-custom superyachts built for owners with very distinctive tastes. “It is interesting to note that while other major superyacht yards are increasingly focusing on semi-custom series yachts, Feadship continues to lead the way in bespoke and entirely unique projects,” comments Francis Vermeer, head of marketing at Feadship.

With the current build portfolio, including the first Feadship to break the 100-metre barrier, the brand continues to lead the way worldwide in having built the largest number of superyachts in the 60 to 100-metre size range.

Feadship – Royal Dutch Shipyards

Super Yacht "Air" For Charter

Feadship Super Yacht "Air" For Charter

Feadship is a cooperative venture between two shipyards (Royal van Lent and Royal De Vries) and maritime engineering company De Voogt Naval Architects.

History

Feadship is founded by two families, De Vries and Royal Van Lent, and has three shipyards in Aalsmeer, Makkum and Kaag and one design and engineering center, De Voogt Naval Architects.

After World War II the market for the previously successful industry was left in ruins. Even after four years of peace, there remained little money or inclination in Europe for ordering pleasure yachts. Encouraged by the Dutch government’s export incentives, Royal Van Lent Shipyard, De Vries Scheepsbouw and four other yards decided to set out their stall for the thriving American market. Read More…

There are yachts, and then there’s the $300 million yacht spotted off the coast of Malibu on Wednesday afternoon.

The 390-foot super yacht, known as “A,” is the aquatic toy of Russian billionaire Andrey Melnichenko.

According to reports, the vessel was docked in San Diego earlier this week and is now making its way up the coast to San Francisco, essentially spreading yacht envy to Californians everywhere.

With a $300 million price tag, the boat isn’t short on perks. According to a profile in the Wall Street Journal, the vessel has 23,600 square feet of living space, bomb-proofed glass, a fingerprint security system and is filled with floor-ceiling mirrors.

We’ll let boating blog “Yacht Pals” highlight some of the other amenities: Read More…
